Great value, clear documentation needed

The hardware quality is solid for the price. It took me a moment to figure out which pin was which since the silkscreen was a bit faint, but once connected to my ESP32, it worked flawlessly.

Good for line following robots too

While marketed for light, we successfully used these for line following by reflecting an IR LED off the surface. The sensitivity adjustment is key here. Would buy again for classroom kits.

Easy to use for beginners

Compact and effective

Perfect for my Arduino night light project

This sensor works exactly as described. The potentiometer makes it very easy to calibrate the sensitivity threshold. I used it to trigger an LED strip when the room gets dark, and the response time is instant.

Reliable sunlight detection

I bought three of these for a solar garden lighting system. They handle outdoor conditions well inside their enclosures. The digital output is clean and doesn't fluctuate unnecessarily.

5 FAQ

Q: Is the photoresistor replaceable if it breaks?

A: Yes, the photoresistor is through-hole soldered. If you have soldering skills, you can desolder the existing one and replace it with a standard GL5528 or similar LDR.

Q: What is the maximum current this sensor can switch?

A: The onboard LM393 comparator output is designed for signal logic, not high-current loads. It should only be connected to a microcontroller input pin. To drive motors or high-power LEDs, please use a relay or transistor circuit.

Q: Does this module provide an analog output or only digital?

A: This specific module provides a digital switching output (HIGH/LOW) based on the threshold you set with the potentiometer. It does not expose the raw analog signal from the photoresistor directly on the standard pins.

Q: How do I adjust the sensitivity level?

A: There is a blue potentiometer on the back of the PCB. Rotate it clockwise or counter-clockwise while exposing the sensor to your target light condition until the status LED triggers at your desired brightness level.

Q: Can I power this with 3.3V logic from an ESP8266?

A: Yes, the module operates comfortably within the 3.3V to 5V DC range, making it fully compatible with 3.3V microcontrollers like the ESP8266 and ESP32.
