Solid performance in varying temps

Tested this in a chamber ranging from 15 to 40 degrees Celsius. The temperature compensation works well. Just ensure you provide a clean 5V power supply to avoid noise in the PWM signal.

Great sensor, needs clear pinout diagram

The sensor performance is top-notch and very responsive to CO2 changes. I deducted one star because the silk screen on the PCB could be clearer regarding the TX/RX pins, but once figured out, it works perfectly.

Q: Is the housing waterproof for outdoor use?

A: The module itself is not waterproof. For outdoor applications, you must install it inside an IP-rated enclosure with a breathable membrane to allow gas diffusion while protecting against rain and dust.

Q: Does this detect Carbon Monoxide (CO) as well?

A: No, this is a dedicated CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) sensor using NDIR technology. It is specifically tuned to the absorption wavelength of CO2 and will not detect Carbon Monoxide (CO).

Q: Can I connect this directly to a 3.3V microcontroller?

A: The sensor operates on 5V. While the logic levels are often tolerant, we recommend using a logic level converter for the UART lines when connecting to a 3.3V MCU to ensure reliable communication and prevent potential damage.

Q: Does this sensor require manual calibration?

A: The SC8 module features an automatic baseline calibration (ABC) logic that runs periodically. Manual calibration is generally not required unless used in an environment where CO2 levels never drop below 400ppm for extended periods.

Q: What is the warm-up time before accurate readings are available?

A: Upon power-up, the sensor requires approximately 2 to 3 minutes to warm up the infrared source and stabilize. Valid data should be read after this initial period.
