Low power consumption
Using this in a battery-powered project and the current draw is impressively low when idle. The delay time adjustment allows me to keep the light on just long enough without wasting energy.

Reliable and sensitive
I bought five of these for a home security prototype. All of them functioned immediately out of the box. The detection angle is wide enough to cover a standard doorway without issues.

Perfect for Arduino projects
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The sensitivity adjustment potentiometers are very responsive, allowing me to fine-tune the detection range for my hallway light project. Great value for the price.

Standard classic module
This is the industry standard HC-SR501. If you need a PIR sensor for prototyping, this is the one to get. Consistent performance across multiple units purchased over the last year.

Good sensor, needs calibration
The module arrived quickly and looks well-made. It took a minute or two to warm up before it started detecting motion accurately, which is normal for PIR sensors. Once calibrated, it has been reliable.

Great for beginners
As someone new to electronics, I found this easy to wire up using online tutorials. The only reason for 4 stars is that the documentation included in the package was minimal, but Google helped.
Q: What is the maximum current this output pin can drive?
A: The output is a digital signal intended for microcontrollers. It should not be used to drive high-current loads like motors or relays directly; please use a transistor or relay module for those applications.
Q: Can this module be powered directly by a 5V USB source?
A: Yes, the HC-SR501 operates within a DC 4.5V to 20V range, so a standard 5V USB power supply is perfectly suitable.
Q: What is the difference between L and H trigger modes?
A: In 'H' mode, the output stays high as long as motion is continuously detected. In 'L' mode, once triggered, the output goes high for the set delay time regardless of whether motion continues or stops.
Q: Does this sensor work through glass or plastic covers?
A: PIR sensors can generally detect motion through thin plastic, but thick glass or materials that block infrared radiation may significantly reduce sensitivity or prevent detection entirely.
Q: Is the pin header pre-soldered to the board?
A: No, the module typically comes with a separate 3-pin header strip that you need to solder onto the board yourself for easy breadboard usage.
