Perfect for low-power IoT dashboards
The E-Ink display is crisp and the ESP32-S3 handles the refresh rate smoothly. Great for building weather stations that run on battery for weeks.

Reliable temperature monitoring
Used this to monitor my server room. The humidity and temp sensors are accurate enough for general environmental logging. Low power consumption is a plus.

Excellent value for AIoT projects
Having 8MB of PSRAM makes a huge difference for image buffering on the E-Ink screen. The USB-C port is a nice modern touch.

Great board, documentation could be better
Hardware is solid and the onboard sensors work well out of the box. Had to dig through GitHub issues to get the Xiaozhi AI example running, but worth the effort.

Good starter kit for E-Ink
If you are new to E-Ink displays, this board simplifies the wiring significantly. Just note that full screen refreshes take a second or two, which is normal for this technology.

Robust build quality
The PCB feels sturdy and the components are well-soldered. I've deployed three of these in my smart garden project and they haven't failed once.
Q: Does this board support MicroPython?
A: Yes, the ESP32-S3 chip fully supports MicroPython. You can flash the latest firmware using esptool.py.
Q: Is the E-Ink display replaceable if it breaks?
A: The display is connected via a standard FPC connector. While technically replaceable, it requires careful handling and specific replacement parts from Waveshare.
Q: What is the operating voltage for the GPIO pins?
A: The GPIO pins operate at 3.3V logic level. Please do not connect 5V sensors directly without a level shifter.
Q: How do I enable the Xiaozhi AI features?
A: You need to download the specific SDK and example code from the Waveshare Wiki page for this product. It includes instructions for configuring Wi-Fi and API keys.
Q: Can I connect an external camera module to this board?
A: Yes, the ESP32-S3 has native camera support via the DVP interface. However, you may need to use GPIO pins carefully as the E-Ink display uses several SPI pins.
