Great value but needs external programmer
The module works great once you get it running. Just remember it doesn't have a built-in USB port for programming, so you must use the included FTDI adapter. Video streaming latency is low on local networks.

Good hardware, steep learning curve
The hardware seems solid, but finding the right libraries and getting the pinout correct took some time. Documentation could be better, but there are many community tutorials available to help.

Solid performance for the price
For under $10, you can't beat this feature set. The only downside is the lack of a microSD card slot on the board itself, requiring an adapter for storage expansion. Image capture is crisp.

Excellent for face detection projects

Reliable for industrial sensing
We deployed ten of these for remote monitoring in our warehouse. They have been running continuously for months without issues. The dual-core processor handles multitasking efficiently.
Q: Is this compatible with the Raspberry Pi GPIO pins?
A: While you can connect them physically, they operate at different logic levels. You should use level shifters when connecting ESP32 GPIOs to Raspberry Pi pins to avoid damage.
Q: Does it come with a case or enclosure?
A: No, this package includes only the development board and the USB-to-TTL programmer. Cases are sold separately or can be 3D printed using widely available online designs.
Q: Can I power this directly via the USB-to-TTL adapter?
A: Yes, the included USB-to-TTL adapter provides the necessary 5V power to operate the board during programming and normal operation.
Q: What is the maximum resolution for video streaming?
A: The OV2640 camera sensor supports up to UXGA (1600x1200) for photos, but for stable video streaming over Wi-Fi, we recommend VGA (640x480) or lower resolutions.
Q: Does this board support 5GHz Wi-Fi networks?
A: No, the ESP32-CAM module only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks (802.11 b/g/n). It does not support 5GHz bands.
