Easy to integrate
I am new to electronics and this was very easy to wire up. The three-wire system is straightforward. It detected my hand instantly at about 50cm. Highly recommend for beginners working on automation projects.

Works well but sensitive to sunlight
Indoors, this sensor is fantastic. However, when I tried using it near a window with direct sunlight, the infrared interference caused some erratic behavior. Shielding it helped, but something to keep in mind for outdoor use.

Good sensor, needs careful calibration
The build quality is solid and the LEDs are bright enough to see status clearly. You do need to spend a few minutes calibrating the distance threshold depending on your ambient light conditions, but once set, it is very reliable.

Perfect for my robot car project
This sensor works exactly as described. The detection range is easily adjustable with the potentiometer on the back. I used it for obstacle avoidance on an Arduino-based robot, and the response time is incredibly fast. Great value for the price.

Compact and effective
Small form factor fits perfectly into my 3D printed enclosure. The detection range claim of 80cm is accurate for white objects; darker objects reduce the range slightly as expected with IR sensors. Excellent product.

Reliable NPN output
Bought five of these for a conveyor belt counting system. The NPN output interfaces perfectly with my PLC input module. No false triggers so far after two weeks of continuous operation. Very satisfied.
Q: Is this compatible with 3.3V logic systems like Raspberry Pi?
A: The sensor operates on 5V. While the output is NPN (open collector), you should use a pull-up resistor to 3.3V if connecting directly to a Raspberry Pi GPIO to ensure safe logic levels, or use a level shifter for best practices.
Q: Can this sensor detect black objects effectively?
A: Yes, it can detect black objects, but the effective detection range will be shorter compared to white or reflective surfaces due to lower infrared reflection. We recommend testing your specific application distance.
Q: What is the maximum current this sensor can sink?
A: The NPN output transistor can typically sink up to 100mA. However, for driving high-power loads, we strongly recommend using the sensor signal to control a relay or MOSFET rather than connecting the load directly.
Q: Does the package include mounting screws?
A: No, mounting screws are not included in the package. The module has two standard mounting holes that accept M3 screws, which are commonly available at most hardware stores.
Q: Can I use multiple sensors close together without interference?
A: Placing multiple IR sensors very close together may cause cross-talk. If you must place them nearby, try to stagger their operation times in your code or add physical shielding between them to minimize interference.
