Excellent for school projects
Bought this for my final year engineering project regarding fire safety automation. It performed flawlessly during demonstrations. The build quality is solid for a budget sensor module.

Good value, needs calibration
Great little module for the price. It took a few minutes to dial in the right sensitivity using the screwdriver on the pot, but once set, it reliably detects flames. Just remember it reacts to strong infrared sources, not just fire.

Easy to use for beginners
I am new to electronics and this was very easy to wire up. The pins are clearly labeled, and there are plenty of tutorials online. It lit up the LED immediately when I held a lighter near it.

Works well but sensitive to sunlight
The sensor is very responsive. One thing to note is that direct sunlight can trigger it if the sensitivity is too high. Make sure to test it in the environment where you plan to deploy it. Otherwise, great product.

Perfect for Arduino Fire Alarms
This sensor works exactly as described. I connected it to my Arduino Uno and was able to detect a candle flame from about 80cm away. The potentiometer makes it very easy to adjust sensitivity so it doesn't trigger falsely from ambient light.

Reliable detection component
Used this in a prototype safety system for a model engine setup. The response time is instant when exposed to a flame source. The digital output makes integration with microcontrollers very straightforward.
Q: Does the relay activate automatically or do I need code?
A: The module itself provides a digital signal change when a flame is detected. If your version includes a relay module attached, it may trigger automatically based on the hardware threshold. However, for most standard F5 modules, you will need a microcontroller to read the signal and control an external relay via code.
Q: Is this compatible with Raspberry Pi GPIO pins?
A: Yes, it is compatible. Since the module outputs a digital signal (HIGH/LOW), you can connect the DO pin to a GPIO input on the Raspberry Pi. Ensure you share a common ground between the Pi and the sensor module.
Q: How do I adjust the detection range?
A: You can adjust the sensitivity and effective detection range by turning the blue potentiometer on the board with a small screwdriver. Turning it one way increases sensitivity (longer range), while the other decreases it to avoid false alarms from distant heat sources.
Q: What is the maximum voltage I can supply to the VCC pin?
A: The recommended operating voltage is between 3.3V and 5V DC. While the comparator chip can handle slightly more, we strongly advise staying within the 5V limit to prevent damage to the sensor and any connected microcontroller.
Q: Can this sensor detect gas leaks without a flame?
A: No, this module specifically detects the infrared wavelength emitted by a flame or fire source. It cannot detect unburnt gas leaks; you would need a specific gas sensor (like MQ-2 or MQ-5) for that purpose.
