Perfect for robotics projects
This sensor is incredibly accurate for short-range detection. I used it on my line-following robot to detect obstacles, and the response time is excellent. The I2C library for Arduino worked out of the box.

Compact and easy to integrate
The small form factor fits perfectly into my drone project. It handles ambient light surprisingly well, though direct sunlight does affect readings slightly as expected.

Good for learning embedded systems
Bought this for a university project. Documentation online is plentiful which helped a lot. Only giving 4 stars because the header pins were slightly loose upon arrival.

Great value, minor setup quirks
The module works well once you get the voltage regulator sorted. Make sure your microcontroller supports 3.3V logic or use a level shifter. Accuracy is impressive for the price point.

Reliable distance measurement
I've tested this against a tape measure up to 1.5 meters and it's consistently within a few millimeters. Much better than ultrasonic sensors for precise applications.
Q: Can this sensor measure through glass?
A: No, Time-of-Flight lasers generally reflect off glass surfaces rather than passing through them. You would need to mount the sensor so it has a clear line of sight without glass interference.
Q: How does bright sunlight affect the accuracy?
A: Strong infrared sources like direct sunlight can saturate the sensor and reduce the effective range or accuracy. It is best used indoors or in shaded outdoor environments for optimal results.
Q: Does this module work with 5V Arduino boards directly?
A: The sensor operates at 2.6V-3.5V. While the breakout board has a regulator, the I2C logic lines are 3.3V. We recommend using a logic level converter if connecting directly to a 5V board to ensure safety and reliability.
Q: Is there a Python library available for Raspberry Pi?
A: Yes, there are several open-source Python libraries available, such as the Adafruit CircuitPython library, which makes interfacing with this sensor on Raspberry Pi very straightforward.
Q: What is the maximum refresh rate for distance readings?
A: The VL53L0X can perform measurements at rates up to roughly 50Hz depending on your timing budget settings. Higher precision settings will reduce the maximum refresh rate.
