Perfect for prototyping complex embedded systems
This board is a powerhouse for the price. The 168MHz clock speed handles my DSP algorithms without breaking a sweat. The onboard ST-LINK debugger works flawlessly with Keil and STM32CubeIDE. Highly recommended for anyone moving up from the F1 series.

Solid value for money
For the features you get, the price is unbeatable. The USB OTG host/device capability allowed me to build a custom data logger easily. Only minor complaint is the micro-USB port feels a bit loose after heavy plugging/unplugging.

Ideal for motor control projects
I used this for a BLDC motor controller project. The advanced timers and high-resolution PWM capabilities are fantastic. The floating point unit makes PID calculations very smooth. No heating issues even under load.

Great hardware, documentation could be better
The board itself is excellent quality with solid soldering and good pin labeling. However, finding specific pin mapping for the Arduino headers took some digging in the schematic. Once set up, it runs stable projects for days.

Reliable for industrial communication tests
We bought several of these to prototype CAN bus nodes for a factory automation upgrade. The dual CAN controllers work perfectly, and the Ethernet MAC is a nice bonus for future IoT integration. Very robust.

Steep learning curve for beginners
If you are new to ARM Cortex-M, this might be overwhelming compared to an Arduino Uno. The register level complexity is high, though the HAL libraries help. Good board, but make sure you have some embedded C experience first.
Q: Does this support FreeRTOS out of the box?
A: Yes, the STM32F407 is fully compatible with FreeRTOS. You can easily integrate it using STM32CubeMX to generate the initialization code with FreeRTOS enabled, or include the library manually in your project.
Q: Can I use this board with the Arduino IDE?
A: Absolutely. You can program this board using the Arduino IDE by installing the appropriate STM32 core package (such as the one by STMicroelectronics or Maple) via the Board Manager.
Q: Is the 5V pin on the Arduino header outputting 5V from USB or is it input only?
A: When powered via USB, the 5V pin acts as an output. If you power the board via the VIN pin or external 5V source, it can accept 5V input. Please ensure voltage levels match your peripherals to avoid damage.
Q: Does this board come with the ST-LINK programmer built-in?
A: Yes, this development board includes an onboard ST-LINK/V2 debugger and programmer, so you do not need an external adapter to flash code or debug.
Q: What is the maximum current draw allowed on the 3.3V pin?
A: The onboard regulator can typically supply around 200mA to 300mA total for the board and external 3.3V loads. For high-current 3.3V peripherals, we recommend using an external regulator.
