Perfect for industrial communication projects
This board saved me weeks of design time. The inclusion of both RS485 and CAN buses in one compact unit with an aluminum case is fantastic. The example code worked right out of the box with Keil and STM32CubeIDE.

Best value for multi-protocol development
Finding a single board that supports UART, RS232, RS485, and CAN without needing external shields is rare. The aluminum case also acts as a great heat sink during prolonged stress testing. Highly recommended.

Solid performance for OBDII simulations
I use this primarily for simulating CAN bus traffic in automotive diagnostics training. It handles high-speed CAN reliably. The only minor issue is that the terminal block screws are a bit small for thick gauge wires.

Robust solution for motor control networks

Excellent learning tool for ARM architecture
As a student transitioning from Arduino to ARM, this board was the perfect bridge. The pre-loaded bootloader makes flashing easy, and having physical RS232 ports helps me understand legacy industrial protocols better.

Great hardware, documentation could be better
The build quality is excellent and the aluminum enclosure feels very premium. While the hardware works flawlessly for multi-channel serial communication, I had to dig into the forum to find specific register maps for the CAN controller.
Q: Does this board support 5V logic levels directly on the GPIO pins?
A: The STM32F103C8T6 core operates at 3.3V. However, the board includes level shifters on the serial communication ports (RS232/RS485/UART) to interface safely with 5V systems. Please do not apply 5V directly to the raw GPIO header pins.
Q: Is the aluminum enclosure grounded to the PCB ground plane?
A: Yes, the aluminum enclosure is electrically connected to the board's ground plane to provide shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI), which is crucial for stable RS485 and CAN communications.
Q: Does the CAN interface support CAN FD (Flexible Data-rate)?
A: No, the STM32F103C8T6 microcontroller features a standard bxCAN controller which supports CAN 2.0A and 2.0B protocols up to 1 Mbps. It does not support the newer CAN FD protocol.
Q: What software environment is required to compile the example code?
A: The provided examples are compatible with Keil MDK-ARM, IAR Embedded Workbench, and the free STM32CubeIDE. We also provide Makefiles for users who prefer command-line compilation with GCC.
Q: Can I power this board via the USB port while communicating over RS485?
A: Absolutely. The board features power isolation circuitry that allows you to power the microcontroller via USB while the RS485/CAN transceivers draw power from the external terminal block if needed, preventing ground loops.
