Reliable GSM connectivity
Been using this for a remote weather station. It connects quickly to the network even in areas with weaker signals. The MMS capability is a nice bonus for sending image alerts.

Excellent for student projects

Works as described
Setup took a little time to figure out the correct baud rate, but once configured, it sends data reliably. The DTMF decoding feature is working perfectly for my security prototype.

Good value but needs stable power
The module functions well once connected. However, ensure you have a power supply capable of delivering 2A peaks during transmission, or it might reset unexpectedly. Otherwise, great hardware.

Perfect for IoT Prototyping
This board works flawlessly with my Arduino projects. The GPRS connection is stable, and sending SMS commands was straightforward using AT commands. Highly recommended for hobbyists.
Q: Does this board come with an external antenna?
A: Yes, the package includes a standard GSM stub antenna with an IPEX connector suitable for immediate testing.
Q: Is the source code for the TCP/IP stack available?
A: The module operates using standard AT commands. You do not need specific source code for the stack; you simply send AT commands via UART to manage TCP/IP connections.
Q: What microcontroller is best suited for this board?
A: This board features a TTL UART interface, making it compatible with almost any microcontroller including Arduino Uno, Mega, ESP32, STM32, and Raspberry Pi.
Q: Does it support 3G or 4G LTE networks?
A: No, the SIM800C is strictly a 2G (GSM/GPRS) module. It does not support 3G or 4G LTE networks. Please check your local carrier's 2G availability before purchasing.
Q: Can I power this directly from a 5V USB port?
A: While the input can accept 5V via the onboard regulator, it is highly recommended to use a dedicated 3.7V-4.2V Li-ion battery or a high-current 5V supply with a low-dropout regulator to prevent voltage drops during signal transmission.
