Beautiful background design
Having the Orchid Pavilion Preface faintly printed in the background is incredibly inspiring for practice. It helps with spacing and composition without overpowering my own characters.

Perfect texture for running script
The semi-processed surface offers just the right amount of resistance for fluid brush strokes. The wax-dyed finish gives it an authentic antique look that enhances the depth of the ink.

High quality but delicate
The paper quality is exceptional, typical of genuine Jingxian Xuan. However, because it is wax-dyed, you need to be careful with very wet ink to avoid slight pooling.

Excellent for display pieces
I used this for a final project and the result looked like a museum piece. The pre-printed seal adds a professional touch that saves time on mounting later.

Lovely aesthetic, smooth writing
The paper glides well under the brush. The only reason for 4 stars is that the scent of the wax took a day to air out, but otherwise, it is a fantastic product.

Great value for authentic paper
Finding real Anhui Xuan paper at this price point is rare. The color tone is consistent across all sheets in the pack, and the sizing is perfect for standard frames.
Q: Can I use liquid ink sticks or should I stick to bottled ink?
A: You can use both. However, freshly ground ink from an ink stick often produces richer tones on this specific antique-finished paper, enhancing the vintage aesthetic.
Q: How should I store these sheets to prevent curling?
A: We recommend storing them flat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Placing a heavy book on top of the stack when not in use helps maintain their flatness.
Q: Are the seal imprints red or black?
A: The pre-printed seal imprints on this specific Orchid Pavilion edition are typically a faded cinnabar red to mimic aged documents, though batch variations can occur.
Q: Is this paper suitable for beginners or only for advanced calligraphers?
A: This paper is suitable for both. The semi-processed nature provides good control for beginners learning running script, while the high-quality texture satisfies advanced artists looking for nuance.
Q: Does the 'wax-dyed' finish affect how the ink absorbs?
A: Yes, slightly. The wax treatment slows down absorption compared to raw Xuan paper, allowing for more deliberate brush movements and sharper edges in your strokes.
