Perfect texture for boneless painting

The coarse gauze texture on this silk card is exactly what I needed for my flower and bird paintings. The ash gray tone adds an immediate antique feel without needing to stain the paper myself. Ink behaves beautifully on the sized surface.

Good value for real silk

Finding real silk card paper at this price point is rare. The weave is visible and adds character to the painting. My only minor critique is that the cut edges could be slightly cleaner, but it doesn't affect usage.

Great quality, slightly stiff initially

High-quality real silk that mimics the Song dynasty style well. It was a bit stiffer than expected out of the package, but once I started brushing, it softened up nicely. The color is consistent across all sheets.

Excellent for detailed work

The sizing on this gauze card prevents ink from bleeding too much, allowing for very sharp details in bird feathers and flower petals. It feels luxurious to paint on compared to standard Xuan paper.

Q: Can I mount this directly onto a scroll?

A: Yes, this card paper is sturdy enough for mounting. Because it is real silk with a card base, it adheres well to backing papers using traditional wheat starch paste methods.

Q: Is this paper suitable for heavy washes or just fine lines?

A: Due to the sizing and the coarse gauze texture, it handles both fine lines and moderate washes well. However, for very heavy saturation, we recommend testing a corner first as the silk absorbs differently than pure plant fiber Xuan paper.

Q: What is the difference between this and regular white Xuan paper?

A: Regular Xuan paper is typically made from plant fibers and is white. This product is made from real silk with a coarse gauze weave and comes in an antique ash gray, offering a different texture and visual depth specifically suited for 'boneless' style paintings.

Q: Does the ash gray color fade over time?

A: No, the antique smoke gray color is integrated into the material during production and is designed to be lightfast and stable, ensuring your artwork retains its vintage appearance for years.

Q: Are the sheets pre-cut or do I need to trim them?
