Essential for automatic watering
Integrated this into a Raspberry Pi system to control a water pump. The response time is instant, and the build quality feels solid. The LED indicators are helpful for debugging without needing a multimeter every time.

Good value, easy to calibrate
Works great with my ESP32 setup. It took about 5 minutes to calibrate the potentiometer to get the right threshold for my potted plants. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the included wires are a bit short, but that's a minor issue.

Great for beginners

Consistent readings
I bought five of these for a larger soil monitoring grid. All of them provided consistent readings right out of the box. The ability to run them at 3.3V or 5V makes them versatile for different microcontrollers.

Reliable and durable
I've had this running in my outdoor herb garden for three months now through rain and shine. The capacitive design really does prevent the electrode degradation I saw with cheaper sensors. The digital output is clean and stable.

Perfect for my Arduino greenhouse project
This capacitive sensor is a huge upgrade from the old resistive ones I used to buy. No more corrosion after a few weeks in the dirt! The sensitivity adjustment works smoothly, and it triggers my relay module exactly when the soil gets dry. Highly recommended for DIY automation.
Q: How do I adjust the sensitivity?
A: There is a blue potentiometer on the back of the PCB. Turn it clockwise to increase sensitivity (trigger at lower moisture) or counter-clockwise to decrease it. Test by placing the probe in dry vs. wet soil while observing the indicator LED.
Q: Is this compatible with the ESP8266 NodeMCU?
A: Yes, absolutely. The sensor supports 3.3V logic levels, making it fully compatible with the ESP8266 and ESP32 series boards without needing a level shifter.
Q: Can this sensor be directly connected to a 12V relay module?
A: The sensor operates at 3.3V-5V. While it can control a 12V relay, you must use the sensor's digital output signal to trigger a transistor or a driver circuit that handles the 12V side. Do not connect 12V directly to the sensor's VCC pin.
Q: How deep should I insert the probe into the soil?
A: For most potted plants, inserting the probe about 2 to 3 inches deep is sufficient to measure root-zone moisture. Ensure the golden traces on the probe are fully covered by soil but do not touch the bottom of the pot.
Q: Does the package include the water pump?
A: No, this kit includes only the soil moisture sensor module and the probe. You will need to purchase a water pump, relay module, and power supply separately to complete your automatic watering system.
