Good value but sensitive to sunlight
Great little module for the price. It works perfectly indoors under artificial light. However, I noticed it gets a bit erratic when used near a window with direct sunlight, likely due to IR interference. Just something to keep in mind for outdoor projects.

Great for beginners
As someone new to electronics, I found this very easy to set up. There are plenty of tutorials online for connecting this to Raspberry Pi and Arduino. The LED indicators make debugging simple. Did exactly what I needed for my automatic door prototype.

Reliable and easy to integrate
I bought five of these for a conveyor belt counting system. They have been running 24/7 for two weeks without any issues. The NPN output interfaces directly with my PLC input. Very satisfied with the build quality.

Perfect for my robot car project
This sensor works exactly as described. The detection range is easily adjustable with the potentiometer on the back. I used it for obstacle avoidance on an Arduino-based robot, and the response time is incredibly fast. Highly recommended for hobbyists.

Solid performance for the cost
Don't expect industrial-grade precision at this price point, but for prototyping and light-duty automation, it's excellent. The adjustment screw allows fine-tuning of the distance, which is a nice feature. One unit had a slightly loose wire, but overall good quality.
Q: Is the output signal 5V compatible?
A: Yes, the module operates on DC 5V-35V. When an object is detected, the output pin goes low (connects to ground) since it is an NPN output. You will need a pull-up resistor if your controller requires a high signal upon detection.
Q: Can this sensor detect black objects effectively?
A: Yes, it can detect black objects, but the sensing distance may be reduced compared to lighter colored objects because black absorbs more infrared light. You may need to adjust the sensitivity potentiometer to compensate.
Q: Can I use this underwater or in wet conditions?
A: No, this sensor is not waterproof or water-resistant. It is intended for indoor use or protected outdoor environments only. Exposure to moisture will damage the electronic components.
Q: What is the maximum current this sensor can switch?
A: The E18-D80NK is designed for signal switching, not high-power loads. The output transistor can typically handle up to 100mA. If you need to control a motor or relay, please use an intermediate driver circuit or transistor.
Q: Does this come with mounting screws?
A: No, mounting screws are not included in the package. The module has two 4mm mounting holes, so standard M4 screws can be purchased separately to secure it to your chassis or bracket.
