Perfect for DIY Wearables
This module works flawlessly with my Arduino project. The I2C communication is stable, and the library support is excellent. I was able to get heart rate readings within minutes of connecting it.

Sensitive to movement
The sensor works well when stationary, but motion artifacts can affect the reading significantly. You will need to implement good filtering algorithms in your code for dynamic use cases.

Excellent value for money
Compared to other biosensor modules on the market, this offers the best price-to-performance ratio. The breakout board layout is logical and easy to solder if you need to remove the headers.

Great documentation support
I appreciated how many open-source libraries are available for this specific chip. It made integrating the sensor into my ESP32 fitness tracker prototype incredibly smooth.

Good sensor, needs calibration
The hardware quality is solid. However, getting accurate SpO2 readings requires some careful calibration and shielding from ambient light. Once set up correctly, it performs very well.

Easy for beginners
As someone new to embedded sensors, I found this module very forgiving. The voltage levels are clearly marked, and it worked immediately with the example code provided in the standard libraries.
Q: How do I reduce interference from ambient light?
A: It is recommended to place the sensor in a light-tight enclosure or use a finger clip design that blocks external light. Software filtering can also help mitigate residual noise.
Q: Can this measure blood pressure?
A: No, this sensor is designed specifically for heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) estimation. It does not have the capability to measure blood pressure directly.
Q: Does this module work directly with 5V Arduino boards?
A: The sensor operates at 1.8V to 3.3V. While many breakout boards include a voltage regulator, you should ensure your logic level shifter is compatible if connecting directly to a 5V microcontroller without regulation.
Q: What is the difference between MAX30100 and MAX30102?
A: The MAX30102 is an improved version with better noise performance, higher LED current drive, and enhanced motion artifact rejection compared to the older MAX30100 model.
Q: Is there a waterproof coating on the sensor?
A: The breakout board itself is not waterproof. The sensor IC has a protective window, but for wearable applications involving sweat or water, you will need to add your own enclosure or conformal coating.
