Good value for money
Solid little sensor for the price. It arrived well-packaged. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the focus is fixed, but for general indication purposes, it is excellent.

Nice bright dot
The laser dot is crisp and round. Installation was straightforward. Just remember to use a current-limiting resistor if connecting directly to a microcontroller pin, though the module usually handles it.

Reliable and consistent
Bought a batch of ten for our workshop. All units functioned correctly out of the box. The 5V requirement makes it very easy to integrate without extra regulators.

Easy for beginners
As someone new to electronics, I found this very easy to set up. Plenty of tutorials online specifically for the KY-008. It lights up immediately when powered.

Perfect for Arduino projects
This module works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The beam is bright and clearly visible even in moderately lit rooms. Easy to wire up using the standard 3-pin layout.

Great for line following robots
I used this as a visual indicator on my line-following robot chassis. It pairs perfectly with other KY series sensors. Very reliable performance over the last month of testing.
Q: What is the lifespan of the laser diode?
A: Under normal operating conditions at 5V, the laser diode is rated for thousands of hours of use. Avoid continuous operation for extended periods to maximize longevity.
Q: Is the laser class safe for classroom demonstrations?
A: This is typically a Class 2 or Class 3R laser product. It is generally safe for brief exposure, but users should avoid staring directly into the beam or pointing it at eyes.
Q: Can I modulate the laser using PWM?
A: Yes, you can control the intensity or turn the laser on and off rapidly using PWM signals from your microcontroller connected to the signal pin.
Q: Can this module be powered directly by a 3.3V pin?
A: While it might emit a dim light at 3.3V, this module is designed for optimal performance at 5V. We recommend using a 5V power source for full brightness and stability.
Q: Does this come with jumper wires?
A: No, the package includes only the KY-008 laser module itself. Jumper wires are sold separately or may be included depending on the specific seller bundle you choose.
