Perfect for Arduino projects

Works as described
As a beginner, I found this module very forgiving. The pins are clearly labeled. My only minor complaint is that the delay time dial is quite sensitive, so small turns make big changes.

Good value but needs calibration
Great little module for the price. It took a minute to understand the jumper settings for trigger modes, but once configured, it detects motion accurately. Just give it a warm-up time after powering on.

Easy to integrate
Connected this to a Raspberry Pi GPIO pin without any issues. The documentation online is plentiful, making setup straightforward. It handles false triggers from pets well when adjusted correctly.
Q: Why does the LED stay on constantly after power up?
A: The sensor requires an initial warm-up period of about 30 to 60 seconds after being powered on to calibrate. During this time, the LED may behave erratically or stay on. Wait a minute before testing.
Q: Can this sensor detect motion through glass?
A: No, PIR sensors generally cannot detect infrared radiation through glass effectively as glass blocks IR waves. It is best used with a clear line of sight.
Q: What is the difference between L and H trigger modes?
A: In 'L' mode (repeatable), the output stays high as long as motion is detected. In 'H' mode (non-repeatable), the output goes high upon detection and stays high for the set delay time regardless of continued motion.
Q: Does this module come with a lens cover?
A: Yes, the module typically comes with a white, dome-shaped Fresnel lens cover pre-installed to focus the infrared signals onto the sensor.
Q: Is 5V input safe for this module?
A: Yes, the HC-SR501 operates safely within the DC 4.5V to 20V range, so a standard 5V power supply from a USB source or microcontroller is perfectly suitable.
