Great for learning sensor fusion
Used this for my university final year project. It provides raw data clearly, which helped me understand Kalman filtering better. One star off because the soldering pads are a bit small.

Perfect for my drone project
This sensor module works flawlessly with my Arduino setup. The I2C communication is stable, and the data from all three sensors is consistent. Great value for a 9-axis IMU.

Good quality, needs calibration
The hardware feels solid and the pins are well-labeled. Just remember that the magnetometer requires careful calibration to get accurate heading data. Once calibrated, it performs very well.

Excellent documentation support

Compact and reliable
Small footprint makes it easy to mount on tight frames. The vibration damping on my quadcopter handles the noise well, and the fusion algorithms run smoothly on this data.

Best budget 9-axis module
We bought ten of these for our workshop. All of them worked out of the box. The price point is unbeatable for getting gyro, accel, and mag in one package.
Q: Can I use this underwater?
A: No, this module is not waterproof or water-resistant. It should only be used in dry environments unless you provide your own custom waterproof enclosure.
Q: Is this compatible with Raspberry Pi?
A: Yes, the GY-85 uses the I2C protocol, which is fully supported by Raspberry Pi GPIO pins. You just need to enable the I2C interface in the raspi-config settings.
Q: How do I calibrate the magnetometer?
A: Calibration usually involves rotating the sensor in a figure-eight pattern in 3D space while running calibration code to determine hard and soft iron distortion offsets. Many example sketches include this routine.
Q: Does this module come with a voltage regulator?
A: The module typically includes an onboard LDO regulator allowing it to accept input voltages between 3.3V and 5V, making it safe for both 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers.
