Finally, a sensor that doesn't rust!

I've tried resistive sensors before, and they corroded within weeks. This capacitive module has been in my tomato planter for two months now with zero signs of degradation. The analog readings are stable and easy to calibrate.

Great value, easy to use

Works perfectly with my ESP32 project. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the documentation could be slightly better for beginners, but there are plenty of tutorials online.

Exceeded expectations

Solid performance

Readings are consistent. I noticed a slight drift if the wires are moved around too much, but once secured, it's very accurate. Good build quality for the price point.

Reliable for automation systems

Integrated this into my home irrigation system. The digital output threshold is very adjustable via the potentiometer. It triggers my relay exactly when the soil gets too dry. Highly recommended.

Perfect for indoor plants

5 FAQ

Q: Does this work with 3.3V logic levels like the ESP8266?

A: Yes, the module operates on a voltage range of 3.3V to 5.0V, making it fully compatible with 3.3V microcontrollers such as the ESP8266 and ESP32 without needing a level shifter.

Q: Is the cable included long enough for outdoor garden beds?

A: The module typically comes with a short 20cm connector cable. For larger garden beds, we recommend soldering extension wires or using a Grove cable extender to reach your microcontroller safely.

Q: How do I calibrate the sensitivity threshold?

A: You can adjust the blue potentiometer on the back of the board. Insert the sensor into dry soil and turn the screw until the LED indicator just turns off, then test in wet soil to ensure it turns on. This sets your digital trigger point.

Q: What is the difference between AO and DO pins?

A: AO (Analog Output) provides a continuous voltage value proportional to the moisture level, which you read with an ADC pin. DO (Digital Output) gives a simple HIGH/LOW signal based on the threshold you set with the potentiometer.

Q: Can this sensor be submerged completely in water?

A: While the sensor is designed for soil moisture detection and is water-resistant, we do not recommend submerging the entire PCB board or the electronic components in water for extended periods. Only the prongs should be inserted into the soil.
