Unique addition to my balcony
Even in a large pot, this plant thrived. The leaves are lush, and watching the gourds form their distinct waistline was fascinating. Great conversation starter for guests.

Great seeds, needs space
The seeds are high quality and grew fast. Just be aware that these vines get huge! Make sure you have a strong trellis. One gourd grew larger than expected, which was a nice surprise.

Authentic Wenwan quality
As someone who collects hand-twisted gourds, these seeds produce the classic shape needed for traditional crafts. The skin texture is smooth, and they cure evenly without mold issues.

Amazing germination rate!
I planted these extra-large seeds in early spring, and 9 out of 10 sprouted within a week. The vines are vigorous, and the unique ant-belly shape of the gourds is exactly as described. Perfect for my collection.

Perfect for crafting
These gourds dry beautifully. The walls are thick enough for carving and twisting into traditional Wenwan pieces. The 'Little Eight Treasures' variety produces very symmetrical fruits.

Easy for beginners
I've never grown gourds before, but these were forgiving. The instructions implied by the product name helped me understand the specific care needed. Only giving 4 stars because shipping took a few extra days.
Q: What is the best soil type for these seeds?
A: They thrive in well-draining, loamy soil rich in organic matter. A pH level between 6.0 and 6.8 is ideal. Mixing in compost before planting will boost growth significantly.
Q: Can these seeds be grown indoors in a pot?
A: Yes, they can be started indoors or grown in large pots (at least 5 gallons), but they will need a sturdy trellis for support and plenty of sunlight near a south-facing window or under grow lights.
Q: Do I need to hand-pollinate the flowers?
A: If you have bees and other pollinators in your garden, natural pollination usually suffices. However, for guaranteed fruit set, especially on balconies or indoors, hand-pollination in the morning is recommended.
Q: How long does it take for the gourds to mature and dry?
A: The gourds typically mature on the vine in about 90-100 days. After harvesting, they need to be cured in a dry, well-ventilated area for several weeks to months until the seeds rattle inside.
Q: Are these gourds edible when young?
A: While some gourd varieties are edible when very young, this specific 'Ant Belly' ornamental variety is primarily cultivated for its shape and use in crafts. We recommend using them for decorative or Wenwan purposes only.
