Perfect for IoT prototypes
This D1 Mini is incredibly small yet powerful. I used it to build a smart home temperature sensor, and the Wi-Fi connection was stable right out of the box. The pinout is clearly labeled, making wiring a breeze.

Best bang for your buck
Compared to other ESP8266 boards, the form factor of the D1 Mini is unbeatable. It fits easily into small enclosures. The Lua support is a nice bonus if you prefer that over C++.

Compact and reliable
I've bought ten of these for a classroom project. They are robust, handle 5V input well thanks to the regulator, and the CH340 driver works fine on both Windows and Mac. Highly recommended for education.

My go-to development board
I use these for all my custom home automation nodes. They connect quickly to MQTT brokers and have enough GPIO pins for most sensors. The community support for this specific board is massive.

Great value, minor learning curve
As someone new to embedded systems, this board was affordable enough to experiment with. Setting up the Arduino IDE took a few tries, but once configured, uploading sketches was fast. Just wish the analog pin range was wider.

Solid performance
Works exactly as described. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the included headers were not pre-soldered, so I had to do that myself. Otherwise, no complaints about functionality.
