Excellent for academic projects
Purchased this for our university lab. It handles MIMO configurations well and the build quality is robust. The open-source nature means students can dive deep into the firmware without licensing headaches.

Best value in its class

Great hardware, steep learning curve
The hardware quality is excellent, and the frequency range covers all my testing needs. However, if you are new to SDR and FPGA development, be prepared to spend some time setting up the toolchain. Once running, performance is stellar.

Solid performer with minor heat issues
Works great for long-duration signal analysis. I did notice the FPGA gets quite warm under heavy load, so I added a small fan to the enclosure. Other than thermal management, it's a fantastic development board.

Superior to PlutoSDR for advanced users
I upgraded from a standard PlutoSDR to this MicroPhase board for the extra FPGA capacity. The AD9361 performs flawlessly, and having direct access to the Zynq PS/PL interface allows for complex real-time processing projects.

Perfect for OpenWifi experiments
This board is exactly what I needed for my wireless research. The integration with OpenWifi was seamless, and the Zynq-7020 provides plenty of logic resources for custom FPGA designs. Documentation could be slightly better, but the community support fills the gaps.
Q: Can I use this with MATLAB and Simulink?
A: Yes, the AD9361 is fully supported by Analog Devices' MATLAB and Simulink toolboxes. You can generate HDL code directly from Simulink and deploy it to the Zynq-7020 FPGA on this board.
Q: Does this board come pre-loaded with OpenWifi firmware?
A: The board typically ships with a basic demo image. You will need to flash the specific OpenWifi FPGA bitstream and root filesystem onto the SD card or flash memory yourself using the instructions provided on the OpenWifi GitHub repository.
