Perfect for teaching kids about AI voice interaction
Bought this to build a custom voice assistant for my daughter's room. The 4G module works flawlessly, allowing the robot to stay connected even when Wi-Fi is spotty. The audio quality is surprisingly clear for such a small board.

My kids love their new talking robot

Best board for learning embedded voice systems

Excellent value for a 4G enabled dev board
We used these boards for a university project on remote IoT monitoring with voice alerts. The integration with cloud services is seamless. Having 8MB of PSRAM makes a huge difference for buffering audio streams.

Solid performance for edge AI applications
Using this for a proof-of-concept voice control system in a warehouse. The dual-core processor handles background tasks while managing voice input efficiently. Only minor issue was the initial driver installation for the cellular module on Linux.

Great hardware, documentation could be better
The ESP32-S3 chip is powerful and the N16R8 configuration handles voice processing well. Setting up the 4G connection required some digging in the forums, but once configured, it's very stable. Ideal for industrial prototyping too.
Q: Can this run TensorFlow Lite for Microcontrollers?
A: Yes, thanks to the ESP32-S3 chip and 8MB PSRAM, this board is fully capable of running TensorFlow Lite for Microcontrollers for basic keyword spotting and voice classification tasks.
Q: Is the microphone sensitive enough for a noisy classroom environment?
A: The onboard microphone is decent for close-range interaction. For noisy environments, we recommend connecting an external I2S microphone module via the pin headers for better noise cancellation.
Q: Does this board come with a SIM card slot pre-soldered?
A: Yes, the 4G version includes a nano-SIM card slot already soldered onto the board. You just need to insert your own SIM card with a data plan.
Q: Can I power this directly from a 3.7V Li-Po battery?
A: Absolutely. The board features a dedicated battery connector and power management circuit that accepts standard 3.7V Li-Po batteries safely.
Q: Which cellular bands does the 4G module support?
A: The integrated Cat.1 module supports major global LTE bands including B1, B3, B5, B8, B20, B28, B38, B40, and B41. Please check compatibility with your local carrier.
