Good value for handmade item
Solid drum for the price. The wood smells great, typical of Toona. One of the iron rings was slightly bent on arrival but easily fixed with pliers. Sound is excellent once tuned.

Beautiful craftsmanship, needs tuning
Arrived well-packaged. Since it is unfinished, I had to spend some time tightening the ropes to get the high pitch right, but that is expected with authentic drums. The wood grain is stunning.

Exceeded expectations
The natural finish allows me to stain it to match my other instruments, which was a huge plus. The cowhide head produces a crisp slap sound that is very satisfying.

Perfect for our temple ceremonies
The pitch is exactly what we needed for the morning rituals. The cowhide is thick and durable, and the Toona wood resonates beautifully without any cracks. Highly recommended for traditional use.

Authentic sound quality
I play in a folk ensemble, and this drum cuts through the mix perfectly. The high-pitch rhythm is sharp and clear. It feels very sturdy despite being lightweight.

Traditional and reliable
Reminds me of the drums used in my hometown temples. The construction is traditional and robust. It holds its tune well even after hours of practice.
Q: Is the cowhide head pre-tuned or do I need to stretch it?
A: The head is installed but not fully tensioned to prevent damage during shipping. You will need to tighten the rope lacing system gradually to achieve your desired high-pitch tone.
Q: How do I maintain the unfinished wood surface?
A: Since the drum has an unfinished natural finish, you can apply tung oil or beeswax periodically to protect the Toona wood from moisture and enhance the grain. Avoid harsh chemical polishes.
Q: What are the approximate dimensions of this drum?
A: While sizes vary slightly due to handcrafting, this standard ritual tang drum typically has a diameter of about 20-22 cm and a depth of roughly 15 cm. Please contact us if you need exact measurements for a specific unit.
Q: Can this be used outdoors for festivals?
A: Yes, it is suitable for outdoor use, but please avoid exposing the natural cowhide and wood to direct rain or extreme humidity, as this can affect the tension and wood integrity. Store in a dry place when not in use.
Q: Does this drum come with beaters or mallets?
A: No, this listing is for the drum only. We recommend using traditional wooden drumsticks or padded mallets suitable for high-pitch tang drums, which can be purchased separately.
