Compact and lightweight
Ideal for drone altitude holding. It's light enough not to affect flight dynamics and provides fast updates. The range is sufficient for indoor navigation tasks.

Reliable for industrial prototyping
We used these in a prototype conveyor belt system to measure box heights. The consistency across multiple units is impressive. Documentation could be slightly better, but the protocol is standard enough to figure out.

Great precision, needs stable power
The TOF principle works exactly as advertised. However, ensure you have a very stable 5V supply; I noticed some noise in readings when powered via a weak USB port. Once connected to a dedicated regulator, it was flawless.

Perfect for robotics projects
This sensor is incredibly accurate for the price. I integrated it into my autonomous rover, and the millimeter-level precision makes obstacle avoidance smooth and reliable. The serial output is easy to parse with an Arduino.

Good value, straightforward integration
Works well with Raspberry Pi and Python. The response time is quick. Deducting one star because the cable connector feels a bit fragile, but the sensor module itself is solid.
Q: What happens if the target is beyond 40 meters?
A: If the target exceeds the maximum range of 40 meters or the signal is too weak, the module will output a specific error code indicating 'out of range' or 'signal failure' rather than providing an incorrect distance value.
Q: Does this sensor work outdoors in direct sunlight?
A: While the sensor functions outdoors, direct intense sunlight can interfere with the laser signal and reduce the maximum effective range. For best results in bright conditions, we recommend using a shading tube or operating in shaded areas.
Q: What is the baud rate for the serial output?
A: The default baud rate is 115200 bps. It can be configured to other standard rates such as 9600, 19200, or 57600 via specific command strings detailed in the user manual.
Q: Can this measure through glass?
A: No, laser TOF sensors generally cannot measure distance through transparent materials like clear glass because the laser beam passes through rather than reflecting back. It may work on frosted or opaque glass.
Q: Is there a library available for ESP32?
A: Yes, several community-driven libraries are available on GitHub for the ESP32 platform. We also provide a basic C++ example code in the documentation section of our website to get you started quickly.
