Q: Do I need to calibrate this sensor before use?

A: The sensor works out of the box, but for precise measurements, we recommend running it in clean air for a few minutes to establish a baseline zero point in your software code.

Q: Is this sensor compatible with 3.3V logic microcontrollers?

A: The sensor requires a 5V power supply. While the output is analog, if your microcontroller is 3.3V only, you may need a voltage divider or an op-amp circuit to safely read the output signal.

Q: Does this come with a library for Raspberry Pi?

A: This is an analog sensor, so it does not connect directly to the standard GPIO pins of a Raspberry Pi which are digital. You will need an external ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) like the MCP3008 to interface it.

Q: Can this detect cigarette smoke effectively?

A: Yes, the GP2Y1014AU is designed to detect fine particulate matter including smoke. It is quite sensitive to cigarette smoke and will show a rapid increase in output voltage when exposed.
