Reliable analog and digital output
I appreciate having both analog and digital outputs on one board. It allows for flexible integration into my IoT gateway. The response time to combustible gases is impressively fast.

Good value but needs patience
The module is solid and well-soldered. Just remember that it needs a long preheat time (about 24 hours) before the readings stabilize. Once warmed up, it detects alcohol and gas very reliably.

Works well but gets hot
The sensor functions correctly and detects methane effectively. However, the heating element gets quite hot during operation, so ensure you have adequate ventilation in your enclosure.

Great for learning electronics
Used this for my university final year project on air quality monitoring. Documentation online is plentiful, and the sensor behaves consistently. Deducting one star because the header pins were slightly loose upon arrival.

Perfect for my home safety project
This sensor works exactly as described. I connected it to an Arduino Uno and had it detecting smoke within minutes after the initial preheat. The sensitivity pot makes it easy to calibrate for different environments.

Sensitive and adjustable
The ability to adjust the threshold with the screwdriver is a huge plus. I set it to trigger only when smoke levels are genuinely concerning, avoiding false alarms from cooking steam.
Q: How do I calibrate the sensitivity threshold?
A: Use a small Phillips head screwdriver to turn the blue potentiometer on the board. Turn it clockwise to increase sensitivity (trigger easier) or counter-clockwise to decrease it. Test with a safe amount of target gas to find your sweet spot.
Q: What is the recommended preheat time before first use?
A: We recommend powering the sensor for at least 24 to 48 hours before relying on its readings. This burns off any manufacturing residues and stabilizes the internal heating element.
Q: Can this detect carbon monoxide specifically?
A: The MQ-2 is primarily sensitive to LPG, propane, hydrogen, methane, alcohol, and smoke. While it may react to Carbon Monoxide, the MQ-7 sensor is specifically designed and calibrated for accurate CO detection.
Q: Does this module require an external library to work with Arduino?
A: No external library is strictly necessary. You can read the digital output using a standard digitalRead() function and the analog output using analogRead(). Libraries are available if you want advanced calibration features.
Q: Is the output voltage compatible with 3.3V systems like ESP32?
A: Yes, the digital output can work with 3.3V logic, but for the best stability and analog reading accuracy, we recommend using a level shifter or powering the VCC at 5V while connecting the signal pin to the 3.3V MCU input.
