Good sensitivity, needs calibration
The module works well once you calibrate the sensitivity knob. Out of the box, it was a bit too sensitive to ambient light, but after adjustment, it detects obstacles reliably up to 30cm.

Solid performance for the cost
For the price, you can't beat these. They aren't industrial grade, but for hobbyist smart cars and simple avoidance tasks, they are more than adequate. The LED indicators are helpful for debugging.

Perfect for my Arduino robot car
These sensors work flawlessly with my Arduino Uno project. The detection range is easily adjustable via the potentiometer, and the response time is very fast. Great value for the price.

Easy to use for beginners
As someone new to electronics, I found this module very straightforward. The pinout is clearly labeled, and there are plenty of tutorials online. It stopped my test car right before hitting the wall!

Works but range varies by surface
The sensor works great on matte surfaces, but struggles a bit with highly reflective or very dark black objects. This is typical for IR sensors, so just something to keep in mind for your specific use case.
Q: Does this work in direct sunlight?
A: Performance may be reduced in direct, intense sunlight because solar radiation contains infrared waves that can interfere with the sensor. It works best indoors or in shaded outdoor conditions.
Q: How do I adjust the detection distance?
A: There is a blue potentiometer on the back of the PCB. Turn it clockwise to increase sensitivity (longer range) and counter-clockwise to decrease sensitivity (shorter range). Use a small screwdriver for adjustment.
Q: Is the mounting hardware included in the package?
A: Yes, the package includes the sensor module and a set of small screws and standoffs suitable for mounting the board to most standard robot chassis.
Q: Can this sensor be used directly with a Raspberry Pi GPIO?
A: Yes, but please ensure the output voltage level is compatible. Since the module operates at 3.3V-5V, it is generally safe for Raspberry Pi 5V GPIO pins, but using a logic level shifter is recommended for long-term safety if your Pi uses 3.3V logic strictly.
Q: What is the maximum current consumption of this module?
A: The typical current consumption is approximately 20mA when the IR transmitter is active and the detection LED is on. Standby current is significantly lower.
