Perfect for Arduino projects
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The I2C library is easy to use, and the readings are surprisingly accurate for the price point. Great for building a simple thermometer.

Great for prototyping
We bought ten of these for our makerspace. Most work perfectly right away. One had a slight connection issue, but overall, they are durable and perform well for educational purposes.

Easy to integrate
As a beginner, I was worried about the wiring, but the pins are clearly labeled. Connected it to my Raspberry Pi and got data within minutes. Excellent starter sensor.

Reliable non-contact sensing
I used this for a robotics project to detect heat sources. The 90-degree FOV is wide enough for my needs, and the response time is very quick. Highly recommended for hobbyists.

Works but sensitive to ambient temp
The sensor works as described, but you need to account for ambient temperature changes in your code to get precise readings. Not ideal for outdoor use without an enclosure.

Good value, needs calibration
Solid module for general electronics. Out of the box, it was off by about 1 degree, but after calibration in the code, it matches my industrial thermometer well. Fast shipping too.
Q: Can this measure liquid temperatures?
A: It can measure the surface temperature of liquids, but please note that steam or reflections on the liquid surface may affect the reading accuracy.
Q: What is the maximum distance for accurate measurement?
A: For best accuracy, the target should be within 5-10 cm. Due to the 90-degree field of view, accuracy decreases significantly as the distance increases because it averages the temperature of a larger area.
Q: Does it require external pull-up resistors for I2C?
A: Most breakout boards, including this one, typically have onboard pull-up resistors. However, if you experience communication errors, adding external 4.7kΩ resistors to SDA and SCL lines is recommended.
Q: Does this module come with a library for ESP32?
A: Yes, the MLX90614 sensor is compatible with standard Arduino libraries which also work seamlessly with the ESP32 platform via the Wire library.
Q: Is the output analog or digital?
A: The GY-906 outputs digital data via the I2C interface. It does not provide an analog voltage output proportional to temperature.
