Great sensitivity, needs calibration
The module works exactly as described. It is very thin and flexible, fitting perfectly into tight spaces. Just note that you will need to write a calibration routine in your code to get linear readings across the full range.
Q: Can this sensor be used directly with a 5V microcontroller without extra components?
A: The FSR402 is a variable resistor. To interface it with a 5V microcontroller, you typically need to create a voltage divider circuit using a fixed pull-down or pull-up resistor (usually 10kΩ) to convert the resistance change into a readable voltage.
Q: How does temperature affect the reading?
A: Like most resistive sensors, there is a slight temperature coefficient. For applications requiring high precision across wide temperature swings, we recommend implementing software compensation based on the operating environment data provided in the datasheet.
Q: Can I cut the sensor to make it smaller?
A: No, you should never cut the active area of the FSR402. Cutting the polymer layers will destroy the circuitry and render the sensor non-functional. You can only trim the non-active polyester tail if necessary for cable management.
Q: What is the maximum force this sensor can withstand before breaking?
A: While the effective sensing range is up to 10 kg, the sensor can physically withstand significantly higher forces. However, exceeding the rated range may result in non-linear readings or potential long-term drift. We recommend staying within the 0-10 kg range for optimal accuracy.
Q: Is the tail connector compatible with standard breadboards?
A: Yes, the termination tail has a 0.1 inch (2.54 mm) pitch, which is standard for most solderless breadboards and 0.1 inch header connectors.
