Good sensitivity, needs warm-up
The sensor works well but requires about 3 minutes of warm-up time before the readings stabilize. Once warmed up, it detects formaldehyde changes quickly. Documentation could be slightly more detailed.

Reliable industrial component

Perfect for my air quality monitor project

Solid performance for the price
Works as advertised. The voltage level is truly TTL compatible which saved me from needing extra logic converters. Only minor issue is the connector isn't included, so you need to solder headers yourself.

Excellent for environmental monitoring
I am using this to monitor off-gassing in a new furniture workshop. The resolution of 0.01 mg/m³ is sufficient to catch small spikes. Highly recommend for professional prototyping.

Works but tricky for beginners
The sensor itself is fine, but if you don't know how to parse UART data strings, you might struggle. Would be nice to have a sample Arduino library linked in the product description. Eventually got it working though.
Q: Is a separate heating circuit required for operation?
A: No, the module contains the necessary conditioning circuitry internally. You only need to supply 5V DC power to the VCC and GND pins.
Q: Does this module output analog voltage or digital data only?
A: This ZE08-CH2O module outputs digital data via the UART interface. It does not provide an analog voltage output proportional to concentration.
Q: Can this sensor detect other gases like benzene or VOCs?
A: No, this electrochemical sensor is specifically calibrated for Formaldehyde (CH2O). While extreme concentrations of other gases might cause minor cross-sensitivity, it is not designed or recommended for detecting benzene or general VOCs.
Q: What is the baud rate for the UART communication?
A: The default baud rate is 9600 bps. Please refer to the specific datasheet protocol section for frame structure details.
Q: How do I calibrate the sensor if the readings drift over time?
A: The sensor features an automatic baseline correction function when exposed to clean air for a prolonged period. For precise calibration, a zero-point calibration in fresh air and a span calibration with a standard gas source are recommended per the manual.
