I recommend this to all my students

As a music educator, I suggest the Yamaha 4C to almost every new alto sax player. It forgives minor embouchure errors while still rewarding good technique. It's durable and holds its value well.

Solid choice, slightly resistant

Reliable and Consistent

I've used Yamaha 4Cs for twenty years as a backup piece. While I prefer a more open tip for gigging, this is incredibly reliable. The intonation is spot on across all registers. Great build quality as expected from Yamaha.

Smooth Tone Production

I needed a mouthpiece that wasn't too bright or too dark for our school band ensemble. The 4C sits right in the middle, blending well with other instruments. Very comfortable to play for long rehearsals.

Q: How do I clean the ebonite material?

A: You should clean the mouthpiece with lukewarm water and mild soap after each use. Avoid using hot water or harsh chemicals, as extreme heat can warp the ebonite and alter the facing.

Q: Can I use this on a Clarinet?

A: No, this product is exclusively for Eb Alto Saxophones. Clarinet mouthpieces have a completely different bore and tenon size and are not interchangeable with saxophone mouthpieces.

Q: Does this mouthpiece fit a Tenor Saxophone?

A: No, the AS-4C model is specifically designed for Eb Alto Saxophones. The shank size is different for Tenor saxophones; you would need a TS-4C model for a Tenor.

Q: Is the ligature included metal or fabric?

A: The ligature included with the genuine Yamaha AS-4C is a standard metal ligature with two screws. It is designed to hold the reed securely without dampening the vibration.

Q: What reed strength works best with this tip opening?
