Industry standard for a reason
As a music teacher, I recommend the Yamaha 222 to all my students. It stays in tune well and requires less maintenance than other brands in this price range.

Great quality, slightly heavy
The build quality is exceptional and the tone is beautiful. My only minor complaint is that it feels slightly heavier than my old student model, but I am getting used to it.

Perfect first flute for my daughter
We bought this for our 10-year-old who just started band. The sound is clear and bright, and the keys are easy for her small hands to press. The case is very sturdy too.

Solid beginner instrument
Very reliable flute. It produces a consistent sound across all octaves. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the case latches were a bit stiff initially.

Excellent resale value
Bought this for my son three years ago. He is upgrading now, and I was amazed at how well it held its value. It still plays like new thanks to the durable construction.

Smooth action and lovely tone
The key action is incredibly smooth right out of the box. The silver plating looks premium, and the included cleaning kit has everything needed for daily care.
Q: Is the headjoint made of solid silver or silver-plated?
A: The YFL-222 features a silver-plated headjoint and body. Solid silver headjoints are typically found on the intermediate 400 series and above.
Q: Can this flute be adjusted if the pads wear out over time?
A: Yes, like all professional and student flutes, the YFL-222 can be serviced and adjusted by a qualified instrument repair technician to replace pads or adjust screws.
Q: Does this flute come with a shoulder strap for the case?
A: The standard Yamaha YFL-222 package includes a hard case with handles, but a separate shoulder strap is usually sold as an optional accessory.
Q: Is this suitable for a complete adult beginner?
A: Absolutely. While marketed often for students, the YFL-222 is widely used by adult beginners due to its reliable intonation and ease of play.
Q: What is the difference between YFL-222 and YFL-S2?
A: They are essentially the same instrument. The 'S' designation often indicates specific regional distribution or minor cosmetic updates, but the playability and specs remain identical.
