Good for low altitude sensing
Using this on a small DIY drone for altitude hold. It responds quickly enough for slow movements. Just remember it doesn't work well over soft surfaces like carpets or foam due to sound absorption.

Reliable and robust
I've bought ten of these for a workshop class. All of them worked out of the box. The wide voltage range is a nice feature if you are switching between 3.3V and 5V logic boards.

Great value, minor noise issues
For the price, you can't beat it. It works well for school projects. I did notice some jitter in readings when used near a running motor, but adding a simple capacitor fixed that. Highly recommend for beginners.

Standard component, excellent quality
This is the industry standard ultrasonic sensor for a reason. Consistent performance, durable pins, and accurate measurements. I keep a few in my parts bin at all times.

Easy to code for
As someone new to electronics, I was worried this would be hard to interface. The documentation online is extensive, and the pulseIn function in Arduino makes reading the distance trivial. Very satisfied.

Perfect for my robotics project
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The range is accurate up to about 3 meters in my testing, which is plenty for my obstacle-avoiding robot. Setup was easy using standard libraries.
Q: Does this come with jumper wires?
A: No, this package includes only the HC-SR04 sensor module. Jumper wires and microcontroller boards are sold separately.
Q: What is the minimum detection distance?
A: The minimum measurable distance is approximately 2cm. Objects closer than 2cm may not be detected reliably or may return a constant low value.
Q: Is this sensor waterproof for outdoor use?
A: No, the HC-SR04 is not waterproof. The exposed circuit board and transducers can be damaged by moisture. For outdoor applications, you must house it in a waterproof enclosure with an opening for the sound waves, or look for a specifically waterproof ultrasonic sensor model.
Q: How do I handle multiple sensors on one Arduino?
A: You can connect multiple sensors by assigning unique Trigger and Echo pins for each module in your code. Ensure you trigger them sequentially with a small delay (e.g., 60ms) between measurements to prevent cross-talk where one sensor hears the echo from another.
Q: Can this sensor be used directly with a 3.3V Raspberry Pi GPIO?
A: Yes, the module operates on a wide voltage range of 3-5V. However, while the VCC can be 3.3V, the Echo output may still output 5V logic depending on the specific batch. It is generally recommended to use a voltage divider on the Echo pin when connecting to 3.3V logic boards to be safe.
