Smooth voice interaction
I was skeptical about the on-board voice capabilities, but the latency is very low. It responds quickly to commands. The build quality feels solid and the USB-C port is a nice modern touch.

Great hardware, documentation could be better
The display quality is crisp and the ESP32-S3 chip is powerful. However, finding specific pinout diagrams for the audio components took some digging. Once configured, it runs great.

Excellent value for money
Compared to other dev boards with similar specs, this offers incredible value. The 1.85-inch round display adds a unique touch to any robot or wearable project. Highly recommended for hobbyists.
Q: Is the display touch-sensitive?
A: No, this specific model features a high-quality IPS display but does not include touch functionality. It is designed primarily for visual output and voice interaction.
Q: Can I program this using Python?
A: Yes, the ESP32-S3 chip fully supports MicroPython and CircuitPython. You can also use the official ESP-IDF or the Arduino IDE with C++.
Q: What is the operating voltage for the GPIO pins?
A: The GPIO pins operate at 3.3V logic levels. Please ensure you use level shifters if connecting to 5V sensors or modules to avoid damaging the board.
Q: Does the XiaoZhi AI require an internet connection to work?
A: Basic voice processing can be done locally, but advanced natural language understanding and cloud-based assistant features typically require a Wi-Fi connection to function fully.
Q: Does this board come with a pre-installed battery?
A: No, the development board does not include a battery. It features a connector for a standard Li-Po battery, which must be purchased separately.
