Good for university projects
Using this for my final year project. The cost is unbeatable for the features offered. The community support is growing, which helps when you get stuck. Would love to see more tutorial videos specifically for the SDRAM controller setup.

Solid build quality
The PCB layout is clean, and the USB-C connection is sturdy. I appreciate that it comes with the necessary cables. Used it to interface with a camera module via the PMOD, and the timing was precise. Highly recommended for industrial prototyping too.

Perfect for learning RISC-V on FPGA
I bought this specifically to learn how soft cores work. The pre-loaded examples allow you to blink LEDs and run C code almost immediately. Having 25K logic elements gives plenty of room to experiment with custom peripherals.

Best budget RISC-V FPGA board
If you want to explore the open-source hardware ecosystem without breaking the bank, this is the one. The integration between the FPGA fabric and the RISC-V core is seamless. Shipping was fast, and the packaging protected the board well.

Excellent entry point for Gowin FPGAs
This board is fantastic for anyone looking to move beyond Xilinx or Intel FPGAs. The RISC-V core implementation is smooth, and the documentation provided by Sipeed makes getting started very easy. The PMOD headers are perfectly placed for adding sensors.

Great value, minor toolchain quirks
Hardware quality is top-notch for the price. The SDRAM works flawlessly once configured. The only reason for 4 stars is that the Gowin EDA software can be a bit heavy on system resources compared to other tools I've used, but the board itself performs beautifully.
Q: Can I power this board via a standard phone charger?
A: Absolutely. The board uses a USB Type-C port and operates on 5V. Any standard USB-C charger capable of delivering at least 1A will work perfectly.
Q: Does this board support Verilog and VHDL?
A: Yes, the Gowin EDA suite supports both Verilog and VHDL for designing your logic on the Tang Primer 25K.
Q: What is the maximum voltage level for the PMOD IO pins?
A: The PMOD interfaces on the Tang Primer 25K operate at 3.3V logic levels. Please ensure any modules you connect are 3.3V compatible to avoid damage.
Q: Are there example projects available for the RISC-V core?
A: Yes, Sipeed provides a GitHub repository with several example projects, including GPIO control, UART communication, and running simple C applications on the soft core.
