Great value, minor soldering needed
The module functions exactly as described. You need to solder the header pins yourself, which is standard, but beginners should be aware. Once set up, the library support is excellent.

Solid performance for the price
Does exactly what it says on the tin. I am using it to control camera gimbals. The only reason for 4 stars is that the documentation could be slightly clearer on address jumping.

Reliable PWM control
I've used several of these for LED matrix projects and servo arrays. The 12-bit resolution provides very smooth transitions. The external power input is a lifesaver for high-torque servos.

Perfect for my hexapod robot

Easy to get started

Robust for prototyping
We use these in our initial prototyping phase for industrial valve control simulations. They handle the duty cycle adjustments precisely and have been very reliable over weeks of continuous testing.
Q: Is this compatible with 3.3V systems like Raspberry Pi?
A: Yes, the PCA9685 chip supports both 3.3V and 5V logic levels. You can safely connect it to a Raspberry Pi without needing a level shifter.
Q: How do I change the I2C address to stack multiple boards?
A: There are 5 address jumpers on the back of the PCB. By soldering specific combinations of these jumpers, you can configure up to 62 unique addresses. Please refer to the datasheet for the address calculation table.
Q: Can this board be powered directly from the Arduino 5V pin?
A: For logic signals, yes. However, if you are driving multiple servos, we strongly recommend using an external 5V-12V power supply connected to the terminal block to prevent resetting the microcontroller due to current spikes.
Q: Do you provide a sample library for Arduino IDE?
A: Yes, this board is fully compatible with the popular Adafruit PWM Servo Driver library available in the Arduino Library Manager. It includes numerous example sketches to get you started quickly.
Q: What is the maximum current per channel?
A: Each channel can source or sink up to 25mA. This is sufficient for driving LEDs or logic inputs, but servos must be powered via the separate external power terminal, not through the chip outputs.
