Perfect for MIDI projects
The native USB support on the ATmega32U4 makes this board incredible for creating custom keyboards and MIDI controllers. No need for external converters. Works flawlessly with the Arduino IDE.

Good starter board
Slightly more expensive than the Uno, but the extra analog pins and USB capabilities are worth it. Documentation online is plentiful which helped me get started quickly.

Best value for students
We bought ten of these for our university lab. They are durable, easy to program, and the included cable is a nice touch. Highly recommended for learning embedded systems.

Reliable and compact

Seamless HID emulation

Great board, minor driver hiccup
Excellent build quality and pin layout. I had a small issue installing the drivers on Windows 10 initially, but once resolved, it has been rock solid for my robotics sensor array.
Q: Can I power this board via the VIN pin with 9V?
A: Yes, the onboard voltage regulator supports input voltages between 7V and 12V via the VIN pin or the DC power jack. 9V is ideal.
Q: Is there a difference between this and the Arduino Uno?
A: Yes, the main difference is the microcontroller. The Leonardo uses the ATmega32U4 with built-in USB, allowing it to emulate USB devices like keyboards, whereas the Uno uses the ATmega328P with a separate USB-to-Serial chip.
Q: How many PWM pins are available on this board?
A: The Leonardo R3 features 7 hardware PWM pins, which are digital pins 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 13.
