Decent but runs hot
Functionality is great, but the chip gets quite warm under heavy load. I had to add a small heatsink for my enclosure design. Otherwise, it works as advertised.

Great value but needs external antenna
The performance is solid for the price point. Just remember that you need to purchase an external antenna separately as it only comes with the connector. Documentation could be slightly better.

Reliable and Fast

Q: What is the range of the WiFi on this module?
A: The range depends heavily on the external antenna used and environmental factors. With a standard 5dBi antenna in an open space, you can expect approximately 50-100 meters.
Q: Can I power this directly via USB?
A: Yes, you can power the board via the Micro-USB port using a standard 5V adapter. Ensure your power source can deliver at least 1A for stable operation when WiFi is active.
Q: Does it support 5GHz WiFi networks?
A: No, the MT7628N chipset only supports 2.4GHz IEEE 802.11 b/g/n networks. If you require 5GHz support, please look at our HLK-7621A series boards.
Q: Is there a JTAG header available for debugging?
A: Yes, the PCB includes unpopulated pads for JTAG connection. You will need to solder pins to access full debugging capabilities. The pinout is detailed in the hardware schematic.
Q: Does this board come with a pre-installed operating system?
A: The board typically comes with a basic bootloader. You will need to flash your preferred firmware, such as OpenWrt, via the UART or TFTP method. Instructions are available in the wiki.
