Great for security camera prototypes
Using this to build a custom doorbell camera. The low power consumption modes are useful. Only downside is the lack of a built-in microSD slot on this specific version, so you need an adapter.

Works but gets warm
Functionality is as advertised, but the board does get quite warm during continuous video streaming. Make sure to provide adequate ventilation if you enclose it in a case.

Perfect for IoT projects
This board works flawlessly out of the box. The camera quality is decent for the price, and connecting to Wi-Fi was straightforward using the Arduino IDE. Great value for money.

Reliable and fast
I've purchased five of these now. Consistent quality across all units. The Bluetooth connectivity is a nice bonus for debugging without needing a serial cable every time.

Excellent for learning embedded systems
Bought this for my university project. The documentation online is extensive, and the community support is huge. It handles video streaming surprisingly well for such a small module.

Good hardware, tricky initial setup
The hardware itself is solid. I had some trouble getting the drivers installed on Windows 10 initially, but once that was sorted, uploading code was smooth. The OV2640 sensor captures clear images in good lighting.
Q: Can I power this directly from a 3.3V pin?
A: It is recommended to power the board via the 5V pin. While the chip runs on 3.3V, the camera module and Wi-Fi transmitter require higher current which is best supplied through the 5V input with the onboard regulator.
Q: Does this board come with a USB cable for programming?
A: No, the package typically includes only the ESP32-CAM board. You will need a separate USB-to-TTL serial converter (like FTDI) or a specific programming shield to upload code.
Q: What is the maximum resolution supported by the camera?
A: The OV2640 module supports resolutions up to UXGA (1600x1200 pixels). However, for video streaming, lower resolutions like VGA or QVGA are often used to maintain frame rate stability.
Q: Is this compatible with the Raspberry Pi GPIO?
A: Yes, you can communicate with the ESP32-CAM via UART or I2C from a Raspberry Pi. However, remember that logic level shifting may be required as the Pi uses 3.3V logic and care must be taken with voltage levels.
Q: How do I reset the board if it freezes?
A: There is a small RST button on the board. Pressing it briefly will restart the microcontroller. If the board is unresponsive during flashing, you may need to hold the BOOT button while pressing RST to enter download mode.
