Perfect for low-power projects
I was looking for a module with both WiFi and BLE that wouldn't drain my battery pack. The BW16 delivers on its low-power promises. Sleep modes are easy to implement, and wake-up times are quick.

Excellent dual-band performance
This board works flawlessly with the Ameba Arduino core. The ability to switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi is a huge plus for avoiding congestion in my smart home setup. Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity is stable and easy to pair.

Compact and powerful
Love the small form factor. It fits easily into custom enclosures. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the onboard LED is a bit dim, making status debugging slightly harder in bright light.

Great value but documentation could be better
Hardware is solid and the Type-C port makes powering it very convenient. However, finding specific examples for the 5GHz band took some digging in the forums. Once configured, it runs perfectly for my IoT sensor project.

Reliable for industrial prototyping
We used these for a factory floor monitoring prototype. The dual-band capability allowed us to isolate traffic on the 5GHz network, reducing interference from heavy machinery. Very stable over long runtimes.

Good hardware, steep learning curve
As someone new to embedded systems, I found the initial setup a bit challenging compared to standard ESP32 boards. The drivers needed manual installation on Windows. Once working, though, the speed is impressive.
Q: What is the maximum current draw for the GPIO pins?
A: Each GPIO pin can typically source or sink up to 10-15mA. For higher current loads, please use external transistors or driver circuits to avoid damaging the chip.
Q: Does the USB Type-C port support data transfer or just power?
A: The Type-C port on the BW16 development board is primarily used for power supply and UART programming. It does not function as a generic USB host/device for data storage.
Q: Is there an external antenna connector available?
A: Yes, the board includes an IPEX connector allowing you to attach an external antenna if the onboard PCB antenna does not provide sufficient range for your specific enclosure.
Q: Can I use the 5GHz band in all countries?
A: WiFi channel availability varies by region. The module supports DFS channels, but you must ensure your firmware configuration complies with local regulatory standards.
Q: Is this board compatible with the standard Arduino IDE?
A: Yes, but you need to install the Ameba Arduino board package via the Board Manager. It is not natively supported out-of-the-box like AVR boards.
