Great quality, nice balance

The brushes feel well-balanced in the hand. The bamboo handles are smooth and not too heavy. I deducted one star only because the largest brush holds slightly less ink than I expected, but overall excellent value.

Beautiful packaging and performance

Bought this as a gift for my father who is learning Chinese calligraphy. He loves the Lingyun series. The packaging is elegant, and the brushes perform beautifully on rice paper without shedding bristles.

Good for the price point

I have tried many mixed hair brushes, and these offer superior snap. They return to their original shape quickly after each stroke, which is crucial for practicing consistent characters. Highly recommended for Kaishu.

Q: What is the best way to clean and store these brushes?

A: After use, rinse gently with cool water until the water runs clear. Reshape the tip carefully and let it air dry horizontally or hang it with the tip facing down. Avoid storing them with the tip resting on a surface.

Q: Is the large brush suitable for writing couplets?

A: The large brush in this set is designed for medium-to-large characters. While it can be used for smaller couplets, for very large ceremonial couplets, you might prefer a dedicated large character brush from our advanced series.

Q: Are replacement heads available if the bristles wear out?

A: Currently, we do not sell replacement heads separately. However, with proper care and cleaning, these mixed hair brushes are durable and can last for years of regular practice.

Q: Do these brushes need to be soaked before the first use?

A: Yes, we recommend soaking the brush head in lukewarm water for a few minutes to remove the protective sizing and allow the bristles to open up fully before your first practice session.

Q: Can these brushes be used with liquid ink sticks or only bottled ink?

A: This set works wonderfully with both traditional ground ink from an inkstick and high-quality bottled sumi ink. Just ensure the ink is not too thick to prevent clogging the bristle tips.
