Perfect upgrade from my old machine
I upgraded from the GS2700 and the difference is noticeable. The JD2799 handles thicker fabrics like denim much better, and the overlock function gives a professional finish to my hems. Highly recommended for home sewists.

Compact but powerful
Don't let the compact size fool you. This machine powers through multiple layers of fabric without jamming. The LED light is bright and makes working on dark fabrics easy. Love the automatic needle threader too.

Excellent for heavy duty projects

Best purchase for my hobby
I make quilts and clothes for my grandkids. The drop feed feature is fantastic for free-motion quilting. The machine runs quietly and smoothly. Very happy with this Japan model.

Great value, minor learning curve
This is a solid machine for the price. The Japanese build quality feels sturdy. It took me a little while to figure out the tension settings for the overlock stitch, but once I got it right, the results were excellent.

Reliable workhorse
Used it daily for three months now. No issues whatsoever. The 29 stitches cover almost everything I need. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the foot pedal sensitivity takes some getting used to.
Q: Does it have a hard case included for storage?
A: The machine comes with a durable dust cover. A hard carrying case is sold separately as an optional accessory.
Q: Can this machine sew leather?
A: It can handle lightweight to medium-weight leather. For very thick or heavy leather, we recommend testing on a scrap piece first and using the appropriate heavy-duty needle.
Q: What is the voltage requirement for this unit?
A: This specific model is designed for 100V (Japan standard). If you are using it in a region with 110V-120V, it typically works fine, but for 220V-240V regions, a step-down transformer is required.
Q: Is the overlock function a true serger or just a simulated stitch?
A: The JD2799 features a simulated overlock stitch that trims and finishes edges in one pass using a special foot, but it is not a standalone serger machine.
