Easy to interface
The digital output makes interfacing with microcontrollers incredibly simple. Just three wires needed: VCC, GND, and Signal. The included LED indicator is also helpful for debugging.

Reliable and consistent
I have used many IR sensors before, and these TCRT5000 modules are among the most consistent. The response time is fast enough for high-speed line following. No issues so far after two weeks of testing.

Good value pack
Bought a set of five for a school science fair project. Four worked perfectly out of the box. One needed a little soldering touch-up on the pin header, but otherwise, they are great for the price.

Works well indoors
Great performance under indoor lighting. I noticed some interference when testing directly under bright sunlight, but for indoor smart car applications, it is perfect. Just keep that in mind.

Perfect for my Arduino robot car
These sensors work flawlessly with my Arduino Uno project. The sensitivity adjustment potentiometer makes it very easy to calibrate for different line colors and lighting conditions. Highly recommended for beginners.

Purchased 20 units for our community makerspace workshop. All units functioned correctly. They are robust enough to handle being plugged and unplugged by students repeatedly.
Q: Does the package include jumper wires?
A: No, the package typically includes only the sensor modules. Jumper wires need to be purchased separately to connect the module to your controller board.
Q: What is the maximum speed a car can go while using this sensor?
A: The sensor itself has a very fast response time. The maximum speed depends more on your microcontroller's processing speed and motor control algorithm rather than the sensor limitation.
Q: Is this compatible with Raspberry Pi GPIO pins?
A: Yes, it is compatible. However, ensure you connect the VCC to the 3.3V pin if you are strictly adhering to Raspberry Pi voltage limits, though many users successfully run it on 5V with logic level considerations.
Q: How do I adjust the detection range?
A: There is a blue potentiometer on the back of the PCB. Use a small screwdriver to turn it clockwise or counter-clockwise while testing against your surface until the indicator LED behaves as desired.
Q: Can this sensor detect black lines on a white surface?
A: Yes, the TCRT5000 is specifically designed for line tracking. It detects the contrast between reflective (white) and non-reflective (black) surfaces effectively when calibrated.
