Great for robotics competitions
Used this in our university robotics project for line following and obstacle avoidance involving heat sources. The 4-wire setup is straightforward, and the digital output is clean. No issues so far.

Easy to integrate

Perfect for fire safety projects
This sensor works exactly as described. I used it with an Arduino Uno to build a small fire alarm prototype, and the sensitivity adjustment via the potentiometer makes it very versatile. Highly recommended for hobbyists.

Works well but sensitive to sunlight
The sensor is very responsive to flames, perhaps too much so if used near windows with direct sunlight. You really need to tune the potentiometer carefully for indoor vs outdoor use. Otherwise, great product.

Reliable infrared detection
I bought five of these for a workshop. All units performed consistently. The LM393 comparator provides stable switching, and the indicator LED helps visualize detection status immediately.

Good value, needs calibration
The module is solid and well-soldered. It took a little time to calibrate the threshold correctly to avoid false positives from ambient light, but once set, it detects flame sources reliably within the stated range.
Q: Can this sensor detect a candle flame from 1 meter away?
A: Under normal indoor lighting conditions, the effective detection range for a standard candle flame is typically between 30cm to 80cm. At 1 meter, detection may be inconsistent unless the environment is very dark and sensitivity is maxed out.
Q: Is the output analog or digital?
A: This specific 4-wire module provides a digital switch output (HIGH/LOW). However, because it uses an LM393 comparator, some users modify it to read the analog signal before the comparator, but out of the box, it is digital.
Q: What is the current consumption of this module?
A: The module typically consumes around 20mA when the indicator LED is on and active. In standby mode without detection, consumption is significantly lower, making it suitable for battery-powered projects.
Q: Does this work with 3.3V logic boards like ESP32?
A: Yes, the module operates on a voltage range of 3.3V to 5V, making it fully compatible with 3.3V logic systems such as the ESP32, ESP8266, and 3.3V Arduino variants.
Q: Can it distinguish between different types of fire?
A: No, this sensor detects infrared wavelengths in the 760nm-1100nm range common to most flames. It cannot differentiate between fuel types (e.g., wood vs. gas); it simply indicates the presence of a flame source within its spectral range.
