Good for educational kits

We bought ten of these for our student workshop. Most worked flawlessly. One unit had a slightly noisy reading, but swapping the I2C pull-up resistors fixed the issue. Great learning tool for ToF technology.

Great value but needs calibration

Works well out of the box, though I had to tweak the calibration settings for my specific lighting conditions. Once set up, it provides consistent readings up to about 3.5 meters as advertised.

Exceeded expectations

I was skeptical about the range claims, but it consistently measures distances accurately even on dark surfaces. The power consumption is also very low, which is crucial for my battery-powered application.

Compact and reliable

The small form factor fits perfectly into tight spaces in my drone project. It handles ambient light better than ultrasonic sensors I have used previously. Highly recommended for hobbyists.

Easy to integrate

Documentation is clear and the sample code works immediately. I appreciate that it supports both VL53L0X and VL53L1X protocols depending on how you configure it. No issues so far after two weeks of continuous testing.

Perfect for robotics projects

This sensor is incredibly accurate for short-range detection. I used it on my line-following robot and the response time is excellent. The I2C library provided by the manufacturer made integration with Arduino seamless.

Q: Is there a library available for Python?

A: Yes, there are several open-source Python libraries available for Raspberry Pi and other Linux-based single-board computers that support this sensor via the I2C interface.

Q: How does ambient sunlight affect performance?

A: Strong direct sunlight can interfere with the 940nm wavelength. While the sensor has filters to reduce noise, performance is best in indoor environments or shaded outdoor areas.

Q: What is the maximum refresh rate?

A: The refresh rate depends on your configuration and timing budget settings. Typically, you can achieve between 30Hz to 60Hz for standard ranging modes.

Q: Can it measure through glass?

A: No, Time-of-Flight sensors generally cannot measure distance through transparent materials like glass because the laser passes through rather than reflecting back. It may provide erratic readings in such scenarios.

Q: Does this module work with 5V logic levels?

A: The sensor operates at 2.6V to 3.5V. If your microcontroller uses 5V logic, you must use a logic level converter or ensure your board has built-in level shifting to avoid damaging the sensor.
