Perfect for my robotics project
This sensor works flawlessly with my Arduino Uno. The range is accurate up to about 3 meters in my testing, which is plenty for my obstacle avoidance robot. Setup was easy using standard libraries.

Easy to code for beginners
I am new to electronics and found tons of tutorials online for this specific model. It took me less than an hour to get it working and displaying distance on my serial monitor. Very beginner-friendly.

Solid performance for altitude hold
Using this for low-altitude holding on a small DIY drone. It responds quickly enough for basic stabilization. Not suitable for high-speed applications, but great for learning and slow-moving projects.

Works well but sensitive to angle
The sensor detects distance accurately when the object is perpendicular to the face. However, if the object is at a sharp angle, the sound waves bounce away and it returns no reading. This is expected physics, but worth noting for specific applications.

Reliable and cheap
Bought five of these for a university project. All of them worked out of the box. The consistency between the units is impressive for the price point. Highly recommended for students.

Good value but needs voltage divider for Pi
Great little module. Just remember that if you are connecting this directly to a Raspberry Pi GPIO, you need a voltage divider on the Echo pin since the Pi is 3.3V logic and this outputs 5V. Once I added resistors, it worked perfectly.
Q: Can I connect this directly to a 3.3V Raspberry Pi without extra components?
A: While the VCC can be powered by 5V or 3.3V, the Echo output pin sends a 5V signal. To protect your Raspberry Pi GPIO pins, you must use a voltage divider (two resistors) to step the Echo signal down to 3.3V before connecting it to the Pi.
Q: What is the minimum distance this sensor can measure?
A: The minimum measurable distance is approximately 2cm. Objects closer than 2cm may not be detected reliably or may return a constant low value.
Q: Can this sensor work underwater?
A: No, the HC-SR04 is designed for use in air only. It is not waterproof, and ultrasonic waves propagate differently in water, so it will not function correctly if submerged.
Q: Is there a library available for Python on Raspberry Pi?
A: Yes, there are several popular Python libraries available such as 'gpiozero' and 'RPi.GPIO' that have built-in support or simple examples for interfacing with the HC-SR04 sensor.
Q: Does this come with jumper wires?
A: No, this package includes only the HC-SR04 module itself. Jumper wires are sold separately, but they are standard male-to-female or male-to-male wires depending on your setup.
