US-100 version has extra features
I specifically ordered the US-100 model because it supports UART mode in addition to the standard trigger/echo mode. This saved me GPIO pins on my project. Highly recommended for advanced users.

Great for learning embedded systems
Bought a pack of five for my university lab. All units worked out of the box. The documentation online is plentiful, making it very easy for beginners to get started with ultrasonic ranging.

Good sensor, check your voltage
Works well for obstacle avoidance. Just remember this is a 5V module, so if you are using a 3.3V microcontroller like some ESP boards, you need a logic level converter. Otherwise, it performs as expected.

Perfect for Arduino robotics projects
I bought the HC-SR04 version for my line-following robot. The distance readings are consistent and easy to interface with Arduino using standard libraries. Great value for the price.

Fast shipping and good packaging
The modules arrived well-protected in anti-static bags. I tested the HC-SR04 immediately, and the accuracy within the 2cm to 400cm range is impressive for such a low-cost component.

Reliable but sensitive to angle
The sensor works great for detecting walls and large objects. However, be aware that soft materials or angled surfaces can absorb or deflect the sound waves, leading to occasional missed readings. Typical for ultrasonic tech.
Q: What is the difference between HC-SR04 and US-100?
A: While both perform ultrasonic ranging, the US-100 offers additional functionality including UART serial communication and temperature compensation for higher accuracy. It also allows selection between 3.3V and 5V logic levels via onboard jumpers.
Q: Does this work underwater?
A: No, these modules are designed for air usage only. Ultrasonic waves behave differently in water, and the electronics are not waterproof. Submerging them will damage the sensor.
Q: Is there a library available for Python?
A: Yes, if you are using a Raspberry Pi, popular libraries like 'gpiozero' have built-in support for the HC-SR04. For other platforms running Python, you can easily write a script using the RPi.GPIO or similar packages to handle the timing pulses.
Q: How many sensors can I connect to one Arduino Uno?
A: You can connect multiple sensors limited only by the number of available digital I/O pins. Each sensor requires two pins (Trigger and Echo). If you run out of pins, you can multiplex the Trigger lines or use software serial libraries.
Q: Can I use this directly with a Raspberry Pi 4?
A: The HC-SR04 operates at 5V logic levels, while the Raspberry Pi GPIO pins are 3.3V. You must use a voltage divider or a logic level converter on the Echo pin to prevent damaging your Pi. The US-100 module can be configured for 3.3V operation via jumper caps.
