Great for education

Bought five of these for our school robotics club. They are robust and easy to wire up. Students learned a lot about gas sensing and safety systems using these modules.

Perfect for my home safety project

This MQ-7 module works exactly as described. I integrated it with an Arduino for a custom carbon monoxide alarm. The analog output is stable after the initial preheat period. Great value for the price.

Solid performance

Works well with Raspberry Pi and Arduino. The voltage requirements are standard 5V, which simplifies integration. Only downside is the heating element gets quite hot, so ensure proper ventilation in your enclosure.

Reliable detection

I tested this against a calibrated professional meter, and the readings were surprisingly close for a hobbyist module. The digital threshold potentiometer makes it easy to set trigger points.

Good sensor, needs patience

The sensor quality seems solid. Just remember that it requires a long preheat time before readings are accurate. Once warmed up, it detects CO changes quickly. Instructions could be more detailed.

Excellent sensitivity

Very responsive to small changes in CO levels. I use it in my workshop where I run engines occasionally. It gives me peace of mind knowing I have an active monitoring system.

5 FAQ

Q: What is the maximum current draw for the heating element?

A: The heating element typically draws around 150mA to 200mA at 5V. Please ensure your power supply can handle this continuous load.

Q: How long does it take for the sensor to stabilize?

A: For best accuracy, we recommend allowing the sensor to preheat for at least 24 to 48 hours upon first use. After that, it stabilizes much faster during subsequent uses.

Q: Is the digital output adjustable?

A: Yes, there is a blue potentiometer on the board that allows you to adjust the sensitivity threshold for the digital output signal.

Q: Can this detect natural gas or methane?

A: This specific MQ-7 model is optimized for Carbon Monoxide (CO). For methane or natural gas, we recommend looking at the MQ-4 or MQ-6 sensor models.

Q: Does this module require a specific library for Arduino?

A: No specific library is required. You can read the analog value using the standard analogRead() function or treat the digital output as a simple high/low signal.
